Auburn To Host Owasco River Cleanup On Earth Day

The Owasco River will once again be the site of an Earth Day cleanup on Saturday, April 20.

The city of Auburn and Auburn Beautification Commission invite city residents to help clean the area of the river from the Mill Street Dam through Market Street Park beginning at 10 that morning.

The city's Department of Municipal Utilities will also be at the Mill Street Hydroelectric Facility at 9:30 a.M. To provide tours, sharing how the river's flow is turned into energy.

Those participating in the cleanup are asked to meet by the dam, where Canal Street intersects with Osborne Street. Volunteers should bring their own gloves and rakes. Garbage and leaf bags will be provided, as will some tools for those who do not have them.

Volunteers Needed For Kids Fair April 6 And 7

Kids enjoy a bouncy slide at the Youth and Family Services Kids Fair in 2023. YFS needs about 130 volunteers to help at this year's Kids Fair on April 6 and 7.

Darsha Dodge, Journal staff

Youth and Family Services needs volunteers for its 27th annual Kids Fair event, which will be April 6 and 7 at The Monument in Rapid City. Currently, YFS has more than 130 volunteer slots to fill.

Volunteers help to ensure the Kids Fair runs smoothly and safely, and they're an essential part of the success of each year's Kids Fair. Volunteer help is especially needed on the afternoon of April 6 and all day April 7. Volunteer shifts on April 6 are 8:45 a.M. To 1 p.M. And 12:45 p.M. To 5 p.M., and volunteer shifts on April 7 are 10:45 a.M. To 2 p.M. And 1:45 p.M. To 5 p.M.

Volunteers must be 13 and older, and no previous training is required. Volunteers are needed to staff various attractions at the Kids Fair and to help with face painting, mini train rides and much more.

To sign up to volunteer, or for more information, contact Brianna Nelson at 605-342-4195 or go to youthandfamilyservices.Org/kids-fair.

YFS' Kids Fair is a two-day event that provides children and their families with a fun place to engage in a wide variety of educational, hands-on activities. All proceeds from this event are used to support the youth programs and services offered by YFS. Last year, more than 8,739 visitors enjoyed the Kids Fair.

"Volunteers are crucial to the success of Kids Fair," said Connie Olson, YFS' chief development officer. "Volunteers ensure the safety of children at Kids Fair and assist by staffing attractions, helping with line control, acting as door monitors, taking tickets, and more."
